Author: BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — A man found dead this morning inside a burning apartment building in western Birmingham was the victim of a homicide, Birmingham police announced tonight.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s office has not confirmed the man’s identity, according to Sgt. Johnny Williams. The cause of death has not been released.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis this morning said it appeared the fire was intentionally set.
The two-alarm blaze started about 1 a.m. at 933 8th Ave. West near Birmingham-Southern College. The two-story apartment building was vacant and for sale.
