BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — A 25-year-old man this afternoon shot his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s mother before taking his own life, according to Birmingham police.
Sgt. Johnny Williams gave this account:
West Precinct officers were called to a house on 16th Street Southwest near the intersection of Cleburn Avenue about 4:30 p.m.
“We did determine it was a domestic situation,” Williams said. “It had been going on for a couple of days and it escalated.”
The boyfriend, who did not live at the house, was arguing with this 19-year-old girlfriend when her mother tried to intercede. The girlfriend’s mother suffered a non-life-threating gunshot wound to her hand. The man then shot his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself.
Part of the incident happened inside the house and part outside.
The girlfriend is in serious condition, Williams said. The identities of those involved have not been released.
