BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — It’s a spring commencement Saturday for three metro Birmingham colleges and universities. Graduation ceremonies will be held by the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Miles College in Fairfield and the University of Montevallo in Montevallo.

UAB, which says its expects about half of 2,507 eligible spring graduates to participate, will hold two commencements at Bartow Arena on its Birmingham campus. Commencement for the College of Arts and Sciences and for the School of Education will be at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony for the schools of Business, Engineering, Public Health, Health Professions, Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Optometry will be at 2 p.m.

The commencement addresses will be delivered by members of the graduating classes. The ceremonies will be streamed live at www.uab.edu/commencementlive.

Miles College will hold its commencement at 11 a.m. in the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Arena with actor, comedian and educator Bill Cosby as the speaker.

The University of Montevallo commencement will be at 9 a.m. Saturday on Flowerhill lawn on school’s campus in Montevallo. Commencement speaker will be Gen. Charles C. Krulak, former commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and recently appointed president of Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham.

Elsewhere, Auburn University in Auburn will hold its spring commencement on Monday in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The University of Alabama in tornado-battered Tuscaloosa has postponed its Saturday graduation ceremonies until Aug. 6 when it will be jointly conducted with its summer commencement program.

Birmingham-Southern will hold commencement ceremonies on May14. BSC’s will be at 9 a.m. near the campus lake.

Samford University in Homewood will hold graduations on May 13 and 14 for its various schools.
