It was 70 degrees at 7 a.m. in Birmingham and central Alabama is in for a hot July 4, according to the National Weather Service.

In the forecast, today should be hot and humid with a 30 percent daytime and 50 percent nighttime chance of isolated thunderstorms. The anticipated high for the day is at least 93 degrees. It could go higher. Sunday’s high was 98 degrees.

Isolated thunderstorms will again threaten Tuesday with the chance set at 50 percent despite mostly sunny skies and a high of about 91 degrees.

For the balance of the week, daily temperatures will rise only into the low 90s and the daily chance of rain and thunderstorms will be between 20 and 30 percent.
