MOBILE, Alabama — A Mobile man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after Mobile police said he nearly hit an officer who was directing traffic, officials said today in a news release.

Police said that about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Michael Glen Cramer, 49, was driving a Toyota Tundra and headed north on Hillcrest Road at Nevius Road. An officer was diverting traffic from northbound Hillcrest onto southbound Nevius Road, officials said.

Police said the driver identified as Cramer failed to turn and continued north on Hillcreast, stricking the officer’s duty holster as he passed by. The officer was not injured, police said; the holster broke a turn signal cover on the Tundra, police said.

After taking Cramer into custody, police determined that the driver was under the influence.

Cramer was booked into Mobile County Metro Jail. Cramer was released later that morning with bail set at $1,000, according to jail records. He has a court appearance scheduled for June 13, according to jail records.
