MOBILE, Alabama — A Mobile man remained in the Mobile County Metro Jail late tonight, charged with shooting a 28-year-old man and taking his car, Mobile police said.

Jeremiah Davis Watt, 24, of Mobile was charged with second-degree assault and first-degree theft of property following an argument with another man this afternoon, Officer Christopher Levy, police spokesman, said.

Watt has a total bail for both charges set at $10,500, according to jail records. He is scheduled for a court appearance Monday, according to jail records.

Levy said police responded to a call about 3:45 p.m. today in the 800 block of Texas Street and found the victim with a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury, although he needed emergency surgery, Levy said. The victim’s condition was not available late Friday.

Police found Watt at Selma and Jefferson streets several minutes later, driving the victim’s car, a late-model white Ford Crown Victoria, Levy said.

A gun was recovered, but as of late tonight, police had not determined if it was the one used in the shooting, Levy said.
