MOBILE, Alabama — Mobile police announced today that they arrested 8 people on a total of 10 misdemeanor charges after an undercover sting operation this week in the Langan Park area.
The sting operation took place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after police received “numerous citizen complaints” of men loitering in the area for the purpose of illegal activity, according to a Mobile Police Department news release.
The illegal activity allegedly involved men trying to meet men for the purpose of sexual activity. While the Police Department news release lists the main charge against each man as “loitering for the purpose of deviant sexual activity,” the Mobile County Metro Jail docket lists the charge as simply “loitering.”
Typically, to make arrests in such cases police use undercover officers to proposition men they find in the park for sexual activity. If the men accept, they are charged.
The following men were arrested and charged in this week’s operation:
- James D. Fredriksen, 45, of Mobile, loitering, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a prohibited substance (salvia)
- Danny P. Moncla, 60, of Spanish Fort, loitering.
- Ricky W. Morgan, 51, of Mobile, loitering.
- Ernest S. Johnson, 53, of Mobile, loitering.
- Thomas M. Hamm, 48, of Mobile, loitering.
- Onelio Sotolongo, 51, Mobile, loitering.
- Michael W. McFerrin, 45, Satsuma, loitering.
- Todd C. Morgan, 41, Mobile, loitering.
