CORDOVA, Alabama — More than 200 people, many tornado survivors, have turned out for a Cordova City Council meeting where the city’s ban on single-wide trailers will be discussed.
Many lined up outside the old National Guard Armory were blocked from attending the meeting at first because they lacked a pass to enter.
Police Chief Kenneth Bobo said the passes result from an order by the Alabama State Fire Marshal for the crowd inside the armory not to exceed 100 people. Bobo said people must have a pass which was given on a first-come basis. The passes were given to police, city council members and representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in addition to residents.
FEMA staff gave up their passes so survivors who lost their homes could come inside.
After complaints, city officials allowed those standing outside to enter the building. People lined the aisles, the walls and spilled outside.
