More than 2,000 Jefferson and Shelby county homes were without power after lightning and wind damage from the afternoon storms that moved through the area, said Hallie Bradley, Alabama Power spokeswoman.
The power outages were concentrated mostly in the west Jefferson County area, with 1,216 households without power, Bradley said.
Bradley said crews are working to restore power and all customers should have power by midnight.
