Today’s high was 98. The record for June 30 is 101, recorded in 1954.

Friday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid-90s, lows in the low to mid-70s. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Saturday: Scattered showers, otherwise partly cloudy. Highs in the low to mid-90s. Lows in the mid-70s. Chance of rain 40 percent.

Forecast by Chief Meteorologist Alan Sealls, WKRG-TV:

Our transition into July shows no big changes. We’ve been warmer than average for the last 5 months and that trend likely continues. In fact, June was 5 degrees warmer than average.

The drought persists. Even though we are seeing our usual afternoon thunderstorms, we’re so far behind that it will take a while, or a tropical system, to catch up.

The Gulf is quiet again after Arlene so now we just deal with our daily summer cycle.

Nights through the weekend stay muggy with lows in the middle 70s.

Each afternoon we’ll warm into the middle 90s. At the beaches it will be more like upper 80s or near 90. Winds will be light from the south.

Daily rain chances will be near 20% so on any given day most of us don’t see any rain but where it happens with thunder you might pick up an inch.
