MILTON, Florida — A Florida Panhandle man has been convicted of fatally shooting a Brewton, Alabama, teen as he fled a party.
A Santa Rosa County jury found 21-year-old Robert Floyd guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder. No sentencing date has been scheduled.
Authorities say Floyd fatally shot 18-year-old GeTyron Benjamin in February 2010. Benjamin was one of 4 people to show up to a party at Floyd’s rural home. When several people at the party asked Benjamin and his friend, Gerald Banton, to leave, Banton testified that he flashed a revolver.
Prosecutors acknowledged that Banton fired at least once but not at Floyd, who grabbed a rifle and fired at the group’s car.
Floyd’s attorney says 6 shots were fired from the fleeing car, and Floyd was defending the 50 guests at his party.
