PLEASANT GROVE, Alabama — A curfew in the city of Pleasant Grove could be lifted by week’s end, public safety director Robert Knight told City Council members Monday night.

The curfew, in place since April 29, lasts from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. It was put in place when many parts of the city were without power and to stop the possibility of looting.

However, Knight said the police and fire department call volumes are returning to normal.

In other news, representatives from Ceres Environmental Services, Inc. addressed the council about debris pickup. Ceres officials said they plan to make at least three passes in the city before the June 12 deadline. Residents are being asked to continue to separate vegetation such as limbs and trees from other debris from damaged homes. Debris should also be moved as close as possible to the street.

Ceres officials said they have already removed about 98,000 cubic yards of vegetation debris and about 76,000 cubic yards of other debris from city streets.

Also city officials are encouraging residents whose homes have been destroyed to contact City Hall at 744-1728 to have their names removed from the garbage pickup list.
