HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Power has been restored in east Huntsville after a car crashed into a power pole knocking out electricity to parts of Jones Valley, Monte Sano and Hampton Cove, Huntsville Utilities said.
At about 2 p.m. a vehicle struck a 35-foot guy pole, throwing guy wires into power lines, knocking out the feed from a substation in Big Cove, Huntsville Utilities spokesman Bill Yell said. The power was restored at 2:49 p.m.
Power outages could causes serious problems today, as temperatures are predicted to soar near 100, possibly breaking the record high for June 2 of 98 degrees, set in 1921.
The National Weather Service has put the Huntsville area under a heat advisory until 7 p.m. today because of the high temperatures and relative humidity.
