The lights are back on in Tarrant after a power outage that lasted almost 24 hours.
City officials say power came back on in the city around 7:30 p.m. It went out Saturday around 8:30 p.m. when a transformer was struck by lightening, said Tarrant Mayor Loxcil Tuck.
Tarrant is a city of about 6,500, northeast of downtown Birmingham.
The power outage forced restaurants and a grocery to close. Some churches in the city did not have Sunday worship service and traffic lights were out on a large portion of Alabama 79.
Some residents left the city and checked into hotels. Others were spending the day with relatives and friends in other areas with power service. Those who remained in Tarrant complained of the misery.
