MOBILE, Alabama — A Prichard man is in the Mobile County Metro Jail charged with shooting a man during a robbery at a motel last week, officials said today in a news release.

Benjamin Samuel Mitchell, 29, was arrested this morning at his home, Ashley Rains, police spokeswoman, said. Mitchell is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, possession of an altered fireman and first-degree possession of marijuana, police said. A gun was also recovered, police said.

Mitchell has previous arrests dating back to April 1999 for a variety of charges including drug possession, traffic offenses and domestic violence, according to jail records.

Mitchell is charged with an incident that occurred about 1:45 a.m. Friday at the Super 8 Motel on Moffett Road, police said. The victim was approached by two males, police said. One of the males shot the victim who was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The victim has since been released from the hospital and is now home, Rains said.
