About 85 people have turned out for a meeting on tornado relief assistance in the Shoal Creek Valley community in St. Clair County, according to Bryan Schaefers, the St. Clair EMA planner.
The gathering is giving residents of this rural community an opportunity to ask questions of federal, state and county emergency management officials.
“We’re there for you,” said Ellen Haynes, the director of St. Clair EMA.
The issues facing many of the residents go beyond housing loss to what to do with timber that has fallen and getting hay for animals.
The April 27 tornado killed 12 people in the community. At least 99 homes were destroyed, Schaefers said.
