HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – The tornadoes of April 27 had another effect.

In the aftermath of the storms, home sales fell by 20.24 percent from March and 34.63 percent from April 2010, according to data from the Huntsville Area Association of Realtors.

“A large percentage of home sales occur at month’s end,” said Oscar Gonzales, the CEO of the Huntsville Area Association of Realtors. “The timing of the storm interrupted many of those transactions that were scheduled to close in the last few days of the month. Preliminary numbers for May are indicating a very strong rebound, which is indicative of our strong market.”

At $174,900, the April single-family home median price – the figure at which half of the homes sold for more and half sold for less – remained unchanged from March. That was a 10.77 precent increase from April 2010.

Compared to March, the April 2011 Average Days on the Market decreased by 6 days to 114. That was an increase of four days from April 2010.
