MOBILE, Alabama — It’s country boys against city slickers and you guys versus y’all.

And at the center of the rivalry between the 20 young men is 20-year-old University of Alabama junior Devin Grissom, an attractive blonde who grew up in Cordova Tennessee, and loves SEC sports.

Grissom and the 20 young men will appear on a new reality show called “Sweet Home Alabama” — a Southern version of ABC’s “The Bachelorette.” The new show, filmed in Point Clear, will debut at 8 p.m. Thursday on Country Music Television.

“The idea was to go where no romance has gone before, which is in the authentic South,” said Andrew Glassman, the show’s producer, who is a fan of the movie “Sweet Home Alabama,” which the show is based on.

“What would happen,” he asked, “if you take a true, authentic Southern belle, find guys from the South who want to keep her there and defend her honor, and guys from the city who want to sweep her off to another world?”

Amanda and Robbie Bacon’s home on Mobile Bay was the location chosen for the program’s eight episodes.

Glassman said that the crew “got a taste of Southern charm and hospitality” during their stay.

“I think it shows through on the screen,” said Glassman, who lives in Los Angeles.

Five of the bachelors are from Alabama, with one from Mobile and another from Robertsdale.

Glassman said it wasn’t difficult finding the perfect bachelorette.

“Devin has an immediate charm,” he said, adding, “She’s smart, and I just had never met anyone like her before.”

Grissom said the part kind of fell into her lap. A Facebook friend suggested she try out for the part.

A week later she had a telephone interview, then flew to Los Angeles for more talks.

“They were looking for a Southern-belle type girl with a modern twist,” said Grissom. “I’m not the type that likes to stay at home and cook.”

She describes herself as a regular girl with a “tomboy side but a girlie side, too.”

A Phi Mu majoring in public relations, she works in Alabama’s football recruiting office.

After college, she wants to work for a professional sports team.

In the show’s finale, Grissom selects one of the 20 men, but she couldn’t divulge his identity.

She was allowed to tell her parents.

Her mother, she said, was very excited about the show, but her father was “tough” on the guys and had one concern.

He wanted to make sure there weren’t any hot tub scenes in the show, said Grissom.
