TALLADEGA, Alabama — The Talladega City Council has voted 4-0 to send a letter to Alabama’s governor asking that the local ABC store remain open.
City Manager Brian Muenger cited a letter from Alcoholic Beverage Control Administrator H. Mac Gibson, which had been passed on to him by state Sen. Jerry Fielding.
Gibson’s letter said that because of reduced funding, he’s considering closing ABC stores as their leases come to an end.
Gibson said that while the closing might cause substantial loss in revenue, it appears to be the most effective way to decrease expenditures.
The letter says the location on Battle Street in Talladega was being considered,
The letter said the Talladega store had sales in fiscal 2010 of $1,896,382. Revenue was $981,685, with operations costs for the year at $193,621.
