TALLADEGA, Alabama — Authorities say all surgeries at a local hospital have been canceled and people have formed long lines at a warehouse where bottled water is being distributed as Talladega enters the fourth day of a water crisis.

A massive water system leak has caused the shortage, which led Citizens Baptist Medical Center to cancel surgeries.

City Manager Brian Muenger said the city continues to provide bottled water to affected residents at the warehouse of an old yarn mill.

Water and Sewer Department personnel were searching for the leak that has depleted the city’s reserves and caused drops in water pressure.

Residents with low water pressures are urged to boil tap water before drinking it.

Residents are asked to refrain from non-essential water usage, like washing cars and watering lawns.
