HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Strong thunderstorms rumbled across Madison County Wednesday night downing trees and power lines, and producing the first rain Huntsville’s seen in three weeks.
Dan Dixon, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said most places in the Huntsville area reported from a quarter-inch to a half-inch of rain.
The last time any measurable rainfall was reported at Huntsville International Airport was May 26, Dixon said, a day when severe storms crossed North Alabama, producing several small tornadoes and damaging winds.

Huntsville Utilities said late Wednesday a large outage in Hazel Green was caused by a tree landing on power lines on Bobo Section Road. Power had been restored to most of the area except portions of Butter & Egg Road and Bobo Section Road by 10 p.m.
Outages were also reported in Madison, Chase, Gurley, New Market, west Huntsville, south Huntsville and north Huntsville.
