Tropical outlook: The National Hurricane Center in Miami is currently tracking two systems with an eye on a third disturbance.
Hurricane Earl continues to sustain category 4 strength, but is expected to weaken before it skirts North Carolina’s Outer Banks late Wednesday.
Tropical Storm Fiona is expected to follow a similar northerly path as Earl, but should stay farther out to sea, possibly brushing Bermuda.
The third disturbance is an area of low pressure in the mid-Atlantic, located some 425 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands as of 1 p.m. CST. Forecasters believe development of this disturbance will be slow, with a 10 percent chance of forming a tropical cyclone (Gaston) in the next 48 hours.
