TRUSSVILLE, Alabama — The Trussville Board of Education tonight hired Zachary Barnes as the new principal of Hewitt-Trussville High School.
Barnes is currently the director of graduation success and dropout prevention for Tuscaloosa City Schools, and has served as a principal, administrator and classroom teacher.
His contract begins July 1, but he will work as needed through June.
He succeeds outgoing principal Mark Kirkemier, who has been principal at the school for the past two years.
Kirkemier resigned in April to become principal of Headland High School in Henry County at the end of May. Barnes lives in Mountain Brook with his wife Laine and their three children.
“Dr. Barnes comes to us with impressive credentials and experiences to lead Hewitt-Trussville High School forward,” Superintendent Suzanne Freeman said.
