BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Two graduating seniors from the Alabama School of Fine Arts are scheduled to meet President Obama Monday at the White House.

Amber Holloway of Tuscaloosa and Anjali Wagle of Rainbow City are two of 140 Presidential Scholars who will meet the president and receive the Presidential Scholar medallion at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time, said Jaronda Little, AFSA’s recruiter and outreach coordinator.

A third student from Alabama, Teja R. Alapati of Huntsville, also was named a Presidential Scholar.

The Presidential Scholars, named by the U.S. Department of Education, were selected because of their academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship and community service.

The Department of Education also is honoring two AFSA teachers, Vincy Lugemwa and Iris Rinke-Hammer for teaching excellence.
