BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — An 18-wheeler that overturned on the ramp from Elton B. Stephens Expressway onto U.S. 280 has been cleared, but the ramp remains closed.
It was unknown if anyone was injured in the wreck, which happened about 3 p.m.
Part of the truck dangled over the guardrail on the ramp to 280 and traffic was backed up for miles on U.S. 31 South for several hours.
Randy Christian, chief deputy of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, said it appeared the truck was the only vehicle involved in the wreck.
