The city of Vestavia Hills will participate in the next month’s sales tax holiday.
Mayor Alberto “Butch” Zaragoza said the City Council passed an ordinance three years ago which obligates Vestavia Hills to observe the sales tax holiday each year. The council has to rescind the ordinance if the city does not want to participate, he said.
“That’s the reason we haven’t come forward to adopt it,” the mayor said, noting other cities that have voted to observe the sales tax holiday.
The sales tax holiday is Aug. 6-8, when the city will exempt school supplies, computers and clothing from sales and use taxes.
